Peyron: Winner of the Artemis Transat

Loïck Peyron cut his sailing teeth aboard a cruiser in La Baule bay, before making his first Atlantic crossing in the Mini-Transat at the age of 18 in a 6.50-m boat. From then on, he ceaselessly honed his solo sailing skills in Figaros or multihulls, as well as serving as a crew member from Formula 40 through to match racing.

Almost forty transatlantic races later and armed with a breathtaking honours list, his passion for boats, big and small remains undimmed.

Peyron Wins the Artemis Transat, A New Record

Loick Peyron won the 2008 Artemis Transat aboard the Open 60 Imocoa class sailboat Gitana 80, setting a new record!

Loick is the first skipper to have won the Artemis Transat three times!

Gitana Eighty finished the 2,982-mile course of The Artemis Transat in a time of 12 days, 11 hours, 15 minutes, 35 seconds (corrected time not including the deduction of the 2.5 hour time allowance awarded by the jury for his rescue of Vincent Riou). In doing so, he has beaten the existing monohull record of 12 days, 15 hours, 18 mins and 8 secs set by Mike Golding onboard Ecover in 2004, by more than four hours.

    Lin and Larry Pardey

Lin and Larry Pardey are a married couple famous internationally for their expertise in small boat sailing. They have sailed about 110,000 miles together. Larry built the two boats they used for two circumnavigations. Neither boat had an engine. They have also delivered race boats and charter boats.

Larry Pardey (born 1939 in Victoria, British Columbia) won the International Oceanic Award from the Royal Institute of Navigation in 1996, and was presented this honour by the Princess Royal, Princess Anne in 1997.

Lin Pardey (born 1944) was awarded the Geoff Pack award by the Ocean Cruising Club in 2001 and they both received the SSCA Service Award in 2004. They currently race a 110 year old cutter in New Zealand but still cruise on board their cutter Taleisin part of each year.

In May of 2007, Lin and Larry entrusted the foundry casting patterns for Taleisin to the safe keeping and management of the Spaulding Wooden Boat Center in Sausalito, California. The patterns will be used for education programs at the Center by the Arques School of Traditional Boatbuilding and loaned to others who wish to have parts cast.
